Hario Syphon Brew Guide

You'll need:

Method:

1

Grind 17g of coffee to a medium-fine grind

Tip: Start with a medium-fine coffee grind, you may wish experiment with coarser or finer grinds until you find what works best. You can also play around with the dose but we find 15-17g of coffee for 250g of water works well.

2

After soaking your cloth filter in warm water, place into the syphon’s upper chamber and pull the filter chain down to hook at the bottom of the funnel.

Tip: If you don’t wish to use cloth filters, paper and metal alternatives are available.

3

Fill the lower bowl with 250g of pre-heated, filtered water.

Tip: Light your burner and place your lower bowl over the heat source. Place the upper chamber inside the bottom bowl at an angle whilst the water starts to boil.

4

Light your burner and place your lower bowl over the heat source. Place the upper chamber inside the bottom bowl at an angle whilst the water starts to boil.

5

Once the water starts to boil, ensure the upper chamber is secured to the lower bowl.

6

When the water has filled the upper chamber, add your coffee and stir in circular movements using your Bamboo Stirrer.

Tip: Reduce the heat at this point by adjusting your burner; the aim is to keep just enough heat present to avoid water dropping back into the lower bowl. Remember not to stir too much as this will agitate your coffee enhancing extraction. 3-5 circular stirs is usually good.

7

After 70 seconds, turn off the heat completely and give the coffee 3 good stirs. The water will begin to drop through the filter and into the lower bowl.

8

Remove the upper chamber and place in the black base. You can then dispose of the coffee grounds and remove the filter. Serve coffee from the lower bowl, allow to cool slightly, and enjoy!

9

Drink and Enjoy.
